Bring 3D Visual Magic to Everyone with Deep Learning

[New] I will join Pixar Animation Studios in 2020, working on machine learning on computer graphics for future animated feature films.

I am a Ph.D. student in Computer Science, University of California San Diego. I received my B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 2016 at University of Science and Technology of China (USTC).

My research is to design deep neural networks for computer graphics, computer vision and camera capture. Previously during my undergraduate study I also worked on sensing, interaction, heuristic algorithm and optimization. I work in Center for Visual Computing, doing projects with Hao Su, Xinyu Zhang, and Ravi Ramamoorthi.

My current research projects are photorealistic rendering using neural networks (mostly with Optix, Mitsuba, PBRT, and my own slower C++/CUDA ray tracer) and 3D shape processing. I am also very interested in differentiable rendering. I am in the 3D Shapenet team.

I am working closely with Disney Research (rendering acceleration and 3D systems for Disney theme parks) and Adobe Research (3D deep learning).

I was a research intern at Disney Research in summer 2019 working on global illumination and 3D human capture. Previously I was interned at Apple working on rendering and display pipeline.

I was awarded Google PhD Fellow in 2018.

I am highly self-motivated in entering entertainment industry, especially films and animations. Some of my cool rendered images are shown here. Outside of research, I regard myself as a hobby artist and I create beautiful animations for personal pleasure (modeling, simulation, rigging, material, texturing, animation, rendering, etc), mostly using Maya.

I serve as reviewer for CVPR, ICCV/ECCV, WACV and ACCV to support the development of the 3D deep learning community.
