Abstract: The slide rule was once the engineer's calculating tool of choice
and constant companion, and for good reason. In this talk, we revisit the
art and science of slide rule operation and design, and explore some of the
elegant underlying mathematical and computational properties of this
remarkably simple yet powerful instrument.
