Course Overview
This course offers an in-depth exploration of the peer-review process for academic conferences, combining theoretical knowledge with practical experience. Designed for students interested in academic publishing in the area of HCI or interaction design, the course covers key topics such as conference requirements, pc responsibilities, and review 2. Students will learn to assess the originality, significance, methodology, and clarity of submissions, and how to write constructive and actionable feedback.
The first half of the course discusses the various aspects of the submission process. The second half of the course immerses students in a mock Program Committee (PC) experience, where they assume the roles of reviewers and PC members for a simulated academic conference. Students will review submitted papers, participate in mock PC meetings, resolve conflicts, and ultimately make decisions about paper acceptance.
By the end of the course, students will be equipped with the skills to contribute to the peer-review process
Course Modality
This is an in person class. Lectures will be in person and not podcasted, except for those marked on the schedule, which will be over Zoom and recorded to the cloud. Attendance is recorded for every session. Please do not come to class or exams if you are sick.
