CSE 91 Grading Policy for Blogging Assignments (Winter 2012)

While we expect most of you to receive full credit for your blogging assignment -- 1 point -- some will get a lower score. These lower scores will either be 0 or 1/2 point, and the details are explained below.

Here are the nitty gritty details.

As mentioned in the course policies document, each assignment is worth 1 point.

We will award 1 point for a blog that meets our expectations. To give you an idea of what our expectations are.... you must develop the idea, and not simply document observations or events without reflecting on them. We want to understand where you are coming from and, when relevant, what your thought processes are. Provoke us with your curiosity and imagination! Stating the obvious will not provoke us. Also, you may not post material not relevant to the assignment and we may choose to not grade the assignment until you have cleared out the irrelevant material.

Here is a summary of how we'll score

Since we expect most of you to get full credit we will only post secret IDs of students who did not get full credit, or who got no credit at all, including those who didn’t post. Assignments not turned in will be marked accordingly, so we can distinguish turned in assignments that got a 0 score from assignments not turned in.

We will post this information to the following Moodle forum:

Missing assignments or assignments not completed

If you believe our records to be in error, you have until the Friday (at 5pm) after the grade posting to bring the matter to our attention. After that time, the grade is unchangeable.

At the end of the quarter, we will send you your total blog score. Since we will have a complete record of your blogs, it will be simple to verify your score so that you can be assured that no error no our part would result in your failing the course. Remember, if your name didn't appear on the weekly scoring list, you received a 1. This is a more reliable method than reporting all scores, since we expect most of you to receive a 1.

If you have questions about this policy, or when doing an assignment, you are not sure about what we are looking for, come see me.
