CSE 8AL: "Closed" Laboratory

Basics

EVERYONE must be registered for one section of CSE8AL. It is not optional.

All held in CSE B210 (basement) You should be in one and only one. You must go to the same lab each week.

In order to print in the lab, you should set up a laser printer account with ACS Printing will be useful for you, and we expect you to be able to do it.

Why CSE8L?

The goal of a "closed" lab time is to give you some hands-on help in making your first explorations with new programming concepts. Additionally, there are "parts of the practice" that are important to learn to effectively employ programming concepts to produce good and working code.

What will happen in CSE8L?

Each week in CSE8L, we'll provide you a lab guideline that walks you through a series of short exercises that focus on what was just introduced in class. The goal is let you experiment with potential pitfalls in using a new concept. We'll ask you to modify a code, and be able to explain what happened as a result of the modification. After working through the lab exercises, you'll answer a short "quiz" to demonstrate that you did and understood the exercises.

All labs MUST be finished in the alloted class time and cannot be made up. As soon as you finish, you may leave lab. If you do miss a lab, try to attend another section of lab that week, and please contact the instructor.

Labs are a great opportunity to get questions answered. Instructors can work with you and your code to explain common misconceptions. Please use lab time to ask questions!
