Due: January 20
Develop (at least) two ideas for projects. Write a brief paragraph about each, including
I ask for more than one idea because 1) you can never have too many ideas and 2) it will keep you from getting stuck in a rut.
I very much encourage you to exploiting existing software/expertise/projects that you are involved with. Time is short, and any thing that enables you to make a deeper contribution is a big win.
Schedule a time to talk to me about the ideas. I'll help you fit its scope to the course.
Once you've selected a project, we will set some milestones throughout the quarter that you will meet. In all cases, the final milestone will be the presentation during the final period for our class.

Due: March 19
To present your results to your colleagues (i.e., your classmates) you will prepare a written report in the style of a research paper as well as a 5-10 minute presentation about your project.
By the time you are ready to write your paper will you have read and though carefully about nearly 40 architecture research papers. Near the end of the quarter, we will take some time to talk about what makes good papers good and less good papers less good. You should try to emulate the good papers.
You will also have presented two presentations about architecture to our class and seen other students do the same. It is now your turn to use the same skills to present your own work.
