CSE105, Winter 2007 - Quiz 3 Prep. Homework

Note:This homework will not be handed in, and you will not receive a grade on it. However, you are required to do the homework on your own (solving the problems, and writing down the solution) in order to prepare for the third quiz. Reading the problems and mentally solving them is not enough: writing the solutions is an important part of the homework, as the grades you will receive on the exams will be based both on the correctess of your solution and clarity of presentation. It is important that you solve the problems before checking the solutions. You should check the solutions only after you are reasonably confident that you solved the problem correctly. If you are not quite sure if your solutions are correct, you should go back to the theory and study from the book. Trying to learn how to solve the problems "by examples" does not work.

The following excercises and problems correspond to the part of the program covered in the third quiz (Chapters 3, 4 and 5.1 from the textbook):

All the following exercises and problems are from the textbook. (Numbers refer to the second edition to the book. The numbers for the first edition, if different, are given in parenthesis.)

  1. Exercise 3.2
  2. Exercise 3.5
  3. Exercise 3.8
  4. Problem 3.10
  5. Problem 3.15 [3.14]
  6. Problem 3.16 [3.15]
  7. Exercise 4.1
  8. Exercise 4.2
  9. Problem 4.13 [4.12]
  10. Problem 4.19
  11. Problem 5.1
  12. Problem 5.9
  13. Problem 5.11
  14. Problem 5.26
  15. Quiz 3 from Winter 2003

Beside those problems you are encouraged to solve more problems in preparation to the quiz. You should be able to solve all of the exercises, and most of the problems at the end of Chapters 3,4 and 5 (except those about 5.2 and 5.3).

Solutions

Solutions to most problems are available from the textbook and/or the Winter 2003 web page.
