CSE 3 Fluency in Information Technology, UCSD, Winter 2004

Laboratory 2: To be done in your lab section in the week of January 12

You will have some time in lab 3 next week to finish this assignment. This can take all of lab2 and up to half of the time for lab 3.

Suggested reading: Snyder book, Chapter 4.

Required supplies: You must bring two “IBM formatted” diskette with you to the lab.

In this lab you will use HTML to create a home page for yourself. Be creative. Some samples of what it can contain are: hobbies, digital pictures, favorite movies, etc. These are just suggestions. You get to choose what is on your home page.

Your web site must have all of the following elements.

1.It must have a main page that has links to at least three other pages, at least one to a page that you write and at least one to someplace else on the web. (For example, one to someplace else can be UCSD’s home page.)

2. It must have a title, body, and address section. The address section should list your email and today’s date.

3. It must include a list with 3 or more list entries (it can be a numbered or unnumbered list, but must use <OL> or <UL>.)

4. It must include one or more images (pictures). You should find the pictures on the web and download them. If you have trouble finding a picture, the proctors will help you. Alternatively, you can use digital photos that yourself have taken.

5. Your site must include some italic text, some bold text, and some regular text.

6. You should use both H1 headings and H2 headings. And other types of headings if you want.

7. Your site must include a horizontal rule <HR>.

8. Your site must include some preformated text (preformat element) <PRE></PRE>.

A good thing to display this way is a poem or maybe a drawing composed of some characters like:

                    X

                   XXX

                  XXXXX

                 XXXXXXX

                XXXXXXXXX

                    X

Save your work to your Diskette(s) or to your cs3w__  account.

You will be graded on the basis of:

attendance (meaning attending essentially the entire 2 hours).

Including all the required elements.

Neatness of code.

Quality of the final web site as viewed on a browser.

You will receive a grade for each lab session, even if the project

takes more than one lab session.
