Networking in an Uncooperative Internet

SPEAKER: Stefan Savage

ABSTRACT

The Internet protocol suite was designed in an environment where users behaved conscientiously and cooperatively. With increased scale, diversity, and financial rewards, this assumption no longer holds in today's Internet. This change challenges network service designers and researchers alike as we try to design coherent distributed services and experiments without depending on the behavior of the participating hosts. In this talk I will describe several discrete instances (and solutions) to such problems, with applications to network measurement, resource management and network security.
