CSE 123: Computer Networks

Policies and Grading

Grades will be assigned as follows:

Academic Integrity Policy

Do not cheat. I hope and expect that everyone in this class will not cheat until given evidence to the contrary. If we find that you have cheated, I will enforce the UCSD Policy on Integrity of Scholarship. Put simply you will get an F in the course, and the Dean of your college will put you on probation or suspend you from UCSD. If you have any questions about this, please ask.

Quizzes

Two quizzes will be administered throughout the session at the beginning of class. The date will be announced in class shortly (1-2 days) beforehand. The quiz will take approximately 25 minutes and will not be able to be made up. Each quiz counts for 5% of your grade.

Projects

There will be two projects, each comprising n% of your grade. The detailed handouts for each project will be made available online as soon as possible. As with any project, I encourage you to start early. This goes double for summer session where time is of the essence. Do not be afraid to ask for help during office hours, at discussion, or on the web board.

Late policy

Projects are due at 11:59 PM local time on the due date, and must be submitted via the turnin system on ieng6. Late projects are docked 33% for each day after the deadline, rounding up to units of one day. Although harsh, this late policy reflects the accelerated summer pace of the course. Get started early!

Collaboration policy

The projects specifically are individual efforts and an incredibly large portion of your grade. Discussing overall concepts at a high level with each other is fine and encouraged. Assisting others with the creation of their code is not, and any suspicious overlap between submitted projects will b investigated.

Midterm

The Midterm will cover the first half of the material from the course and take place in class on Thursday, July 14th.

Final Exam

The final exam for this course will be bright and early at 8 AM on Friday, July 29th. The final exam will be cumulative but will focus on the material not covered on the midterm.
