Creating a RAM or PROM: Go to the "Simulation -> PROM/RAM/PLA Wizard" menu item. Choose PROM or RAM (PROM for your instruction memory). Choose the number of address lines based upon your required instruction memory size, and a "bits per word" of nine. Choose "Enter hex data manually" and paste your hex instructions in from a text file. For the PROM device, the inputs are simply an address and the data appears on the output pins. The RAM device has the following additional control inputs: /CE controls whether data (or zero) appears on the output. /WE (write-enable) controls whether a write to memory is occurring on the specify address/data pins. It also has separate address and data line inputs so that writes can occur. A RAM module with a test case is already made for you, and is contained in the "Data Ram.cct" file. In order to use it, you must paste it into your design. Logicworks will not allow a RAM library component to already have preset data. You must create your instruction memory PROM. Remember that you must have nine bits per word, which means that the hex data you enter will have three hex digits. The following program 2 string is contained in the RAM: \The09quick0Abrown0Bfox0Cjumped0Dover20the090Blazy200C09dog%. "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog%." Answer: 9 words. This is the hex data used for the RAM device. It can be modified by selecting the RAM device and selecting the "Simulation -> PROM/RAM/PLA Wizard" menu item. Simply click "Next" with "Edit selected device" selected.
