There will be one midterm and eight quizzes (given each Monday, 1-1:50 PM, CENTR 115).

No quiz will be given Monday March 31 (first day of instruction) or Monday May 26th (Memorial Day). Exact quiz dates are April 7, 14, 21, 28; May 5, 12, 19; June 2. The midterm will be given in class, May 7. The material to be covered on the midterm will be announced in class prior to the midterm date.

There will be a final exam at the scheduled time (check as we get close for room changes, but now scheduled in the regular class, 3-6PM, Thursday, June 12).

No makeup quizzes will be given, but everyone is allowed to throw out their lowest quiz score. Two letter grades will be assigned in the course G1 and G2. G1 is based on the quizzes and midterms together. G2 is based on the final exam alone. Your course grade will be MAX(G1, G2). Thus, if you are happy with G1, you won't have to take the final exam. If you want to skip all quizzes and the midterm and just take the final exam, your grade will be G2.

All quizzes and exams will be open book, BUT NO OTHER MATERIAL. You can, of course, make notes in your book but no sheets of paper, etc., will be allowed in the exam. Calculators will be allowed in the quizzes and exams.

Each quiz will be based on a set of problems in the texts. These problems will serve as prototypes from which the quiz problems will be constructed.
