CSE 8B: Quizzes, PeerWise and Exams

Links

Basics

There will be two types of quizzes: Regular, paper, in class quizzes (weeks 3,5,7,9) and PeerWise quizzes (weeks 2,4,6,8,10).

Quizzes and PeerWise exist as a way for you to self-assess your learning each week. If you find yourself performing poorly on these, you should get help NOW. Do not wait for the midterm or final.

There will be one midterm and one final exam. They will cover all the assigned reading, lecture material, and assignments up to the class period BEFORE the exam (eg, the exam is on Tuesday, material up through the previous Thursday is fair game). Exams must be taken at the scheduled time, no exceptions.

All quizzes and exams are closed book, closed notes, no calculators allowed.

Quizzes are on Tuesdays (weeks 3,5,8,10). No quizzes are dropped. You cannot make up a missed quiz.

The midterm exam will be on Tuesday, Week 6, May 5, during the normal class time, in the normal lecture room

The final exam will be on Tuesday, June 9 from (say ouch) 8:00am to 10:59am in the normal lecture room

What is PeerWise?

PeerWise is a collaborative website designed to support students' cogntive skills in knowing what you need to know for a course. For each PeerWise week (2,4,6,7,9) you will:

You, of course, may use the PeerWise "answer questions" features to review and study for quizzes and exams. Previous studies of PeerWise have shown that those stduents "more active" on the PeerWise system score better on a final exam than those who were "less active". We hope that PeerWise will be a useful resource for you.

Your username for PeerWise is your UCSD email address. Your password is the course number (with the cse) all lower case. Full directions on how to use PeerWise are here .

What about quizzes?

Quizzes cover the material since the last quiz, and are a bit easier than exam questions. Quizzes are held the first 10 minutes of each Tuesday class and will usually be graded and returned within a week.

No quiz grade will be dropped. It is your responsibility to attend class every quiz period.
