Lab 2 Instructions

Part 1: Use svn to check out a project from a repository.

• View svn's built-in help by running svn help checkout.
• Check out the project by running svn co http://cse70.ucsd.edu/svn/project/branches/lab2
• Change your working directory to the new lab2 directory.
• Create a README file (using your favorite editor).
• add the file
  • svn add README
• modify an existing file
  • edit the first line of build.xml
    • change "alll" to "all"
• see the changes
  • svn status
  • svn diff build.xml
• commit the changes (won't work)
  • svn ci -m "my comments"

Part 2: Use Ant to build the project.

• take a loot at build.xml
• compile and jar up the project
  • ant compile
  • ant jar
• try the application
  • java -jar jar/IRCClient.jar

Part 3: Use JUnit to run the tests in the project.

• compile the tests
  • ant compile-test
• set the classpath (e.g. if you use bash do the following)
  • export CLASSPATH=`cat classpath.txt`
• run the tests
  • java org.junit.runner.JUnitCore edu.ucsd.cse70.ircclient.IRCClientTest
  • java org.junit.runner.JUnitCore edu.ucsd.cse70.ircclient.IRCMessageTest
• run the tests using Ant
  • ant test
• clean up
  • ant clean
