Course Description:

The embedded market demands processors that can achieve high levels of performance in the smallest possible area, while simultaneously minimizing power and energy dissipation. Customized processors offer a way of meeting these demands through targeted architectures specifically constructed to meet the performance, area, and power demands of a given application.

This class will examine (1) existing and new application domains where customized processor can potentially be advantageous, (2) techniques to automate the architecting of customized processors, and (3) approaches for automatically generating compilers/binaries for these customized processors.

The course grade will be based on a class project, upone a literature comparison report, and upon class participation. The project will be due in the form of 3 assignments.
