Memory Research Report:

This will be a short summary report about 6-7 pages long studying different memory storage technologies.

The format for each memory type you choose to do a report on should include the following 3 categories:
(1 page each memory type, total 5 memory types)

1. What?

  • What's the underlined technology (datasheet)?
  • Density (bits/space and bits/$)?
  • Is it made of CMOS, capacitor, optics, or magnetic technology?
  • Name one major company that develops this type of memory.

    2. How?

  • How it's being used? For temporary or permanent usage?
  • Which type of devices use this type of memory? Name a few...
  • Where it's used most often, desk top? palm? MP3 player? etc.

    3. Why?

  • Why use this type of memory?
  • performance/speed issues?
  • reliability issues?
  • power issues?
  • size issues?
  • cost issues?
  • availability issues?
  • etc...

last page: Summary comparison of the memory types you chose in the following area:

  • performance
  • reliability
  • power consumption
  • size
  • cost
  • availability
  • popularity

Have an introduction page describing what your report is going to be about. Then go into each of the memory type (about 1 page each) in more details. Make a summary table for the above information and compare them with each other on the scale of 1-10. You may need to describe what 10 means (most? greatest? largest?). Also provide a quick summary describing what you learned from doing this report.

Here is a list of memory to choose from (choose 5 & choose wisely):
    - ROM, PROM, EPROM, EEPROM, Flash, DRAM, SRAM, SDRAM, DP-RAM, DDR-RAM, CDROMs, Floppies, Hard disk.

Please provide a list of sources/references (esp. for the "what"). Links to datasheets/web sites are completely valid (if they're from a manufacturer of your specific memory).
