Homework 2 FAQ

1. For problem 1, please give at least two different points for each of the three new types of functionality.

2. For problem 3, machine granularity is with respect to the individual processor (instead of the entire system). You should be able to find the info by doing a search at www.google.com. Please indicate the source of your info in the homework.

3. For problem 4, change all occurrences of “MFLOPS” (MFLOP per sec) with “MFLOP”. So blocktime is the number of MFLOP required to execute a single block.

4. For problem 5b, see lecture 7, slide 24 for a start. For problem 5b, you should interpret the statement that "all update data can be transferred in a single message" to mean that the data points along one edge are packed into one message. So for problem 5b, t_comm should be the communication time for either a send or receive of the data from one edge packed into a single message. See p. 184 of W&A for details. If you have already done the problem a different way, please state your assumptions and that will be fine. For 5c, please write a short explanation to support your answer.
