There will be a final exam and eight quizzes .

These quizzes will be given on Fridays in Discussion Section (CENTR 113, 11:15 - 12:05).

There will be a final exam at the scheduled time (check as we get close for room changes, but now scheduled in the regular class, 3-6PM, Saturday, Dec. 13.)

No makeup quizzes will be given, but everyone is allowed to throw out their lowest quiz score. Two letter grades will be assigned in the course G1 and G2. G1 is based on the quizzes alone. G2 is based on the final exam alone. Your course grade will be MAX(G1, G2). Thus, if you are happy with G1, you won't have to take the final exam. If you want to skip all quizzes and just take the final exam, your grade will be G2.

All quizzes and exams will be open book, BUT NO OTHER MATERIAL. You can, of course, make notes in your books but no sheets of paper, etc., will be allowed in the quizzes or final exam. Calculators will be allowed in the quizzes and final exam.

Each quiz will be based on a set of problems in the texts (see CSE21 Fall 97 Home page). These problems will serve as prototypes (see Quiz Prototypes) from which the quiz problems will be constructed. Each prototype will spawn a collection of similar, related problem which we call the aura of the original problem. The quizzes and final exam will consist of problems from the auras of the various problem prototypes:
