Pintool for the project

We are going to use the Rev.23100 release of the pintool for the purpose of generating additional traces. You can find the manual for pintool here.
The pintool webpage does not have the Rev.23100 up for download - so I suggest you use the link in the project webpage. The manuals are pretty much the same. However there is a "doc" folder in the pin directory link I provide. It has documentation files to help you out with any issues you may have. Unless you want to master the pintool, you will not require to go even this deep! All you need to do is this:

To generate a trace for /bin/ls
1. Go to the directory that has the pin executable. (After you untar the pin tarball, the pin executable is in the root directory).
2. Use memtracer to generate the trace file located in, say, ../ location.
3. ./pin -t ../memtracer -- /bin/ls
4. Use optional parameters such as -skip or -length to restrict your trace file length and the starting point.
If you are using APElab machines, try using the "ifeellucky" flag if your trace generation runs into errors. ./pin -ifeellucky -t ../memtracer -- /bin/ls
