Lab 3 Instructions

PART I: coordinating with your team

  1. Talk with your teammates and agree on a time to meet weekly, apart from the meeting with the customer on Wednesday.
  2. As a team, update your Trac wiki to show the names of the team members, the time and location of your weekly meetings (one with the customer, one without).

PART II: first project tasks

  1. In Trac, go to your team's Roadmap and rename the first milestone Lab 3.
  2. Split your team into 2 working groups for this lab only. Each will complete a separate task that requires modifying the project code as described in the next step.
  3. Go to New Ticket and create 2 new tickets. Associate each with the Lab 3 milestone and put an appropriate username in the Assign to field. Here are the tasks:
    1. Short summary: Change IRC Client name. Full description: Change the name of the client, which is displayed in the window title.
    2. Short summary: Change default nickname. Full description: Change the nickname that is used by default when the client connects to a server at startup.
  4. Working in 2 separate groups, check out your team's code from the Subversion repository and modify it to complete the tasks above. (Normally you would write tests first, but this time only, you may skip that step.)
  5. When you believe the task is complete, prepare to commit your changes. Always follow these steps before committing:
    1. Update from the repository in case anyone else has committed changes since your last update. This will prevent conflicts when you commit.
    2. Make sure the project builds correctly and passes all tests. (In your case, also make sure your modifications have the desired effects.)
  6. Commit your changes, making sure to include complete commit comments with the 4 pieces of information listed on the ProjectEvaluation page. Use a TracLinks style to link to the ticket.
  7. Update your ticket, changing its status to closed. In the update comment, include a TracLink to the changeset that resolved the ticket.
  8. When both tickets are closed, edit your Lab 3 milestone and mark it as completed.
