Grading and Course Policies

Your grade will be determined by the homeworks (50%) and exams (50%). The complete breakdown is as follows:

The initial grading scale is:

A = 90-100
B = 80-89
C = 70-79
D = 60-69
F = 00-59

Depending on the difficulty of the exams, your grade may be higher, with a maximum adjustment of 10 points (e.g., a D may go down to 50).

Homework consists of two parts: regular written problems and Matlab programming exercises. Unless otherwise stated in class, all homework must be turned in in hardcopy format. Collaboration is encouraged and you may work in teams of up to three and hand in a single assignment. Please note the names of all collaborators and references (books, internet, etc.) at the top of each homework assignment. You must have contributed to and have a complete understanding of each solution you hand in.

Points will be deducted for late homework turn-ins. The due date and time will appear at the top of each homework assignment; unless otherwise specified, the assignment is due at the beginning of lecture. If you turn in a homework after it is due, you will lose 20% of its score up front and 20% per day thereafter, except in established cases of illness or emergency.
