The Griswold/Turner genealogy project began as a simple entering of two old, handwritten genealogies representing parts of our families. It has grown in the 5 years since it began, and we've been able to piece together much information.
This area will eventually contain pointers to the Griswold-Turner database and the Chase database. It will also contain a number of essays on the subject of genealogy, both in general and as they apply to the family.

The Griswold Family
Jones, Darling, and Withrow Connections
We are fortunate to have inherited two genealogies for parts of our families that were done in the early 20th century. One is a genealogy for a portion of the Griswold family from the Immigrant Edward Griswold to Charles Edward Griswold. The other is an Eaton-Herkimer genealogy compiled by Lura Eaton Stahl that represents a portion of the Eaton and Herkimer families of the Mohawk Valley in New York State. This includes General Nicholas Herkimer, who was in command at the Battle of Oriskany during the American Revolution and also Col. Peter Bellinger and several other men who fought in that battle. In addition, the names Schuyler, Van Schlichtenhorst and Ver Planck appear from the colony of New Netherland. Many of the persons listed in this work are descendants of Thomas Dudley, who was second governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Newer research has been completed on Thomas Dudley's descent from royalty and several of the Magna Carta Sureties, 1215. Readers are referred to David Faris, Plantagenet Ancestry of Seventeenth-Century Colonists, Second Edition. Boston: New England Historic Genealogical Society, 1999 for the most current work in this area.
We have scanned these two genealogies so that they can be available for a larger readership. A caution: Considerable research has been done on these families since these documents were written. We cannot vouch for every detail, and the authors did not cite sources. Persons using this material for genealogical work should be sure to consult and cite current sources to corroborate this information.

Family Lines from Companions of the Conqueror While the lines represented here are those of two members of our family, we think they might be of use to others outside our family. In most cases these lines have been contructed according to the best sources we have at our fingertips, which means hard-bound published sources, not Web files, but the copying of details from our database, a huge and time-consuming task, has not been done. We welcome corrections, comments and suggestions.

Seemingly Unrelated Threads from Abraham to European Royalty We recently pursued a project of comparing various threads and descents recorded from Abraham to various European families and thence to our own families. This document gives some of those results.
