NIH- and HHMI-funded postdoctoral positions are available in Pavel Pevzner's lab at the University of California at San Diego.
Applicants should either have experience in bioinformatics or have strong background in theoretical computer science or combinatorics and burning desire to work in the field of bioinformatics. The specific research subject is flexible and negotiable but the applicants interested in computational mass-spectrometry, fragment assembly for the "$1000 a genome" initiative, and new algorithmic approaches to protein structure analysis are particularly sought. Independent research in any other area of bioinformatics is encouraged as well. We also have positions for postdocs who are specifically interested in participating in the HHMI-funded "bioinformatics education" project. For bioinformatics experts (a few years after Ph.D. or previous postgraduate experience) we have a possibility to substitute the Postdoctoral Fellow position with the Project Scientist position.
Qualifications: a PhD in Computer Science/Mathematics (or a related field), and some experience in computer programming.
To apply: send, via email, a CV, a statement of research interests, and the names and contact information for three references. Applications and inquiries should be addressed to Pavel Pevzner at firstname.lastname@example.org
