I have recently been busying myself with pondering how change in perception causes change in community. At UCSD, I am an active member of GradWIC, and was president during the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 academic years. I also participate in discussions with GradWISE, another UCSD organization focused on diversity and support for graduate students in the sciences. I have participated in a number of workshops with a focus on community and research in science and mathematical fields.
Some workshops I've attended:
- CRA-W Graduate Cohort Workshop, Boston, MA, April 2013
- Women in Theory, Princeton University, June 2012
- CWIC SoCal, Santa Ana, CA, April 2012
- Women in Mathematics in New England, Smith College, September 2010
In 2012 I was awarded the inaugural Yahoo! Yodel Your Thoughts Award for an essay on the importance of strong female role models in science and engineering fields. I was also awarded the inaugural UCSD CSE graduate award for contributions to diversity in 2015.
