University of California, San Diego

I received my PhD in Computer Science from UC San Diego, where I worked with Sanjoy Dasgupta and Mohan Paturi. Prior to beginning my PhD program here in San Diego, I received my master's degree from Sapienza University of Rome.

My interests broadly lie in the analysis and design of algorithms and mathematical models, with particular emphasis on the areas of machine learning, large data analysis, and game theory. I have also been working on algorithms in the contexts of social networks and the Web. If interested, you can find my publications here.

I was a Yahoo! Research intern for the summers of 2010 and 2011. Hosted by Ravi Kumar, I had the opportunity to collaborate with several researchers on a variety of projects.

In 2011, I was part of the UCSD team who participated in the DARPA's Shredder Challenge. We developed a crowdsourcing approach to reconstruct shredded documents. It was a great success in discovering the power and limitations of the crowd. And no, we actually did not win. :)

Born and raised in Italy, I learned to love soccer as well as cooking (of course)! I also enjoy playing the guitar and reading.
