Hi everyone-It is my understanding that, although some discussion has already taken place, the plans for the new building are not at all settled. So now is a great chance for us to give some input to the building committee about what we'd like.
Specifically, I'm thinking that CSEGSA should give some input to the committee about how the grad lounge could be designed to best meet our needs. I'm looking for requests that impact the design of the building itself, not specifics like "get more comfortable couches" or "Chez Bob should buy more of...".
For example, do you like having the food area in the same place as the library? Would quiet study space be useful on those days when your labmates can't stop talking about the movie they saw last night? (I'm not sure if the lounge is the place for quiet study, but still let us know what you'd like...) Etc, etc...
The committee is currently in the process of selecting an architect. Discussion about design details will happen next month (July), so we have a few weeks to get some ideas out. I will compile the suggestions, and provide them to the committee. One final note - this forum is a chance for us to provide some input, but no one is guaranteeing that any or all of our requests will be incorporated into the design! I just thought it would be nice to at least make the committee aware of what we want!

hmmm...this board doesn't seem to be getting much use! anyway, i'll chip in my two cents. from my perspective, the one thing that would be important would be a place for Chez Bob to run its operation. this would include:
that would be my wish list!
- space for the fridge and cabinet used for selling stuff
- an nearby area against a wall to reconstruct the B.o.B.2k computer console setup
- space for the cabinet which is used for storage of dry goods
- some storage space for drinks, including not only the stuff that's currently stored in the mail room, but also the stuff that's under the counter in the anteroom
- storage space for party supplies and various and sundry other stuff
- some kind of area to organize and facilitate the recycling effort

Some sink-like area similar to what's in the current lounge (or better, like what's in 4301) would be good as well.
