This is a subset of the CAlifornia Facial Expressions (CAFE)
dataset, copyright 2001 by Matthew Dailey, Garrison
W. Cottrell, and Judith Reilly. 

These faces are supplied free of charge, for educational,
research and non-profit purposes only. However, any use of the faces must

Under HistEq2 and Gamma are two normalized versions of the
faces, one Gamma corrected and the other Histogram
Equalized. The Gamma corrected were generated from the
histogram equalized ones by the "gamma.pl" perl script
included. All of these faces have been certified as
"FACS-correct" for each of the portrayed expressions.
The coding for the file names is:
subject-number_[a|d|h|m|f|n|s]{t}[1|2].pgm
a = anger
d = disgusted
h = happy
m = maudlin (for sad)
f = fear
n = neutral
s = surprise
t = teeth showing (if present, for happy)
1 or 2 are just different versions. Usually the best one is
given here.

Under the "foils" directory are other CAFE faces, some of
which are apparently below facs criteria (with an "ng" in
the name). The foils were used for experiments, as well as
some faces from the JACFEE (matsumoto and ekman) dataset,
which were not included here for proprietary reasons.

This dataset was created with the support of the National
Institute of Mental Health under grant number RO1-MH57075.
