Project

The goal of this project is provide an in depth experimental experience on hardware/software technologies behind the rapid advances in the emerging wireless embedded platforms. We will be using Intel’s the state of the art development platform for XScale PXA27x processor.   The platform is an excellent base for development of next-generation embedded wireless multimedia applications. Completion of the project will aid in understanding of power/performance tradeoffs, and energy awareness in operating system services, and innovative applications on computationally rich and networked environments.   All the hardware needed is available for use in CSE 3219. The project will be graded on a combination of the demo and a short report outlining the results. All of your work on development platform has to happen in the lab. The files you will need can be found in the project directory

This project will be completed in three stages.

1. (15%) Install and run media player on PXA27x.
2. (35%) Low power portable media player.
3. (50%) Energy efficent kernel design.

Lab Access
Intel’s PXA27x platforms are available in the embedded systems lab CSE 3219. To gain access you must visit Robin Knox rsknox@ucsd.edu in EBU3b room 2248 with a valid UCSD ID card.
The card programming times are M-Th 10-12 & 2-4pm.
