Dear CSE 141,

I gave an example in the review section today

If we were to manage 256 MB of memory and our page size is 8 KB, what is the
minimum length of the page table or number of entries in the page table.
There were some discussion and confusion about this problem.
Following the corrected solution.

if you have 32-bit addressing and the page size
is 8 KB, the virtual page numer is
  32 - 13 = 19 bits

The page table size would be 2 ^ 19.
Since the physical memory size is 256 MB, you need 28 bits of physical
address. Since the page size is 8 KB, physical page number will be  28 - 13 = 15 bits.

So the size of the page table will stay constant, the appropriate physical
address bits will determine the size of the memory that can be managed.
